On a flat wicket, India opted to bowl first. Johnson Charles attacked Indian bowlers from the world go, giving an indication of what is to come. He along with Evin Lewis put on 126 for the opening wicket in just 9.3 overs. The highlight of the partnership was Charles’ breathtaking 33-ball 79. His innings included six fours and seven sixes.
After Charles’ dismissal, Lewis took the baton and hammered Indian bowlers. The left-hander slammed Stuart Binny for five sixes in one over and eventually went on to score a century. Lewis’ onslaught helped West Indies cross 200-run mark before being dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja.

Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard chipped in with 22 each as West Indies posted huge 245 in their allotted 20 overs. For India, Jasprit Bumrah, who was on a hat-trick in last over, and Jadeja scalped two wickets each. Mohammad Shami picked a wicket as well.
India’s required run rate was over 12 runs per over from the start of chase and batsmen had a mountainous task in front of them. However, India failed to get off to a decent start. Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli were back in the hutch inside first five overs with score reading 48 for two.
Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul then steadied the Indian innings and went on attack. The duo put on 89 runs for the third wicket off just 43 balls. This partnership helped India stay in contention. However, Pollard struck in 12th over to make things difficult for India. Rohit was dismissed on an individual score of 62 off 28 balls.
It was 107-run stand between Rahul and Dhoni which almost snatched the game away from West Indies. The duo kept attacking at will and brought the equation down to 24 off 12 balls. In the process, Rahul scored his century.
Russell after being taken for 20 runs in his previous over gave away 16 runs in the penultimate over and that meant India needed eight from last six balls. Dwayne Bravo was given the ball and he delivered when it was needed from him. On the very first ball, Marlon Samuels dropped an easy catch of Dhoni at short third man. However, Bravo kept his cool and gave away six runs from first five ball. Needing two off last ball Dhoni was dismissed.
